The first thing you hear is the title of this, and it gives you the immediate vibe of good vs. evil - angels vs. demons. It also gives the somewhat-dramatic vibe that so many shows often have - like the titles One Tree Hill, Smallville, and Supernatural, in my opinion.
The series premiere was definetly different, bringing in new beings that we didn't originally see in Charmed - elementals. It brings the reader curiously into it. From the first scene - a demon attack with Melinda - you can tell that one of the main themes of this is good vs. evil, along with family.
Which brings me to the theme song for this season. All About Us has always been one of my favorite songs, reminding me of family and friends, and the bonds between them. The song tells you that they are loyal to each other, more than many things.
A story, however, is nothing without its characters. While in Charmed, Wyatt seemed one-demensional, either good or evil, no other sides. Wyatt, here, however, is shown with weaknesses, fears, wants, and diseres, and seems more human than Charmed's Wyatt. He just happens to be half-angel here. Chris is very much the same, which is very much a plus, in my opinion. However, we meet charries we never met in Charmed - Prue, Melinda, Henry, Ryan, and Chloe.
While we soon find out that Chloe and Wyatt were linked in high school, in brings you back to the Andy-Prue relationship in season 1. Amazing together (Prue/Andy fan here), but Chloe, however, isn't that fond of magic. She's the sort of Darryl in the series, except she's a girl.
Meanwhile, Ryan. Bringing in the half-manticore baby is always a good idea, in my opinion. Later on in the series, you find that he has two half-siblings, which does give you a sense of happiness the Derek moves on after getting Ryan back in season 6 of Charmed.
Meanwhile, the Charmed Ones. Prue, Melinda, and Henry. First of all, I thought that Prue was written amazingly. She reminded me of her mother so much, but had the slight vibe from her aunt as the eldest. Definetly a good thing. Melinda, meanwhile, reminded me somewhat of Phoebe in the first few seasons. Henry, meanwhile, was a quiet one, and the youngest of the Halliwells in Miami, trying to do what he could in the fight against evil. He seemed like a good older brother, but he had weaknesses, clearly shown by several episodes.
The events that happened in this were a combination of things that happened in Charmed - the Seven Deadly Sins, Coyote Piper, and Barbas - and new things altogether - the demon that turned Chris evil, Prue's new power, and many other things. Time-travel is also very common in the show, showing many things that gave many readers interest.
The Bianca-Chris relationship. It was a very interesting relationship, leaving the reader wondering what had happened in New York, with her and Chris meeting. It gives a very dramatic, edge-of-the-seat wonderment about it, wondering what would happen. Would Chris turn evil? Bianca turns to the good side? What? However, it turns into a sadness when Chris, turned evil because of Bianca, vanquishes her.
However, things rarely stay vanquish for long in the Charmedverse... (Cole, Barbas, etc), so who knows if she'll be coming back or not...
The Melinda and Ryan relationship. To tell the truth, for some reason, I didn't like either Melinda or Ryan at the beginning of the show. Ryan grew on me after a couple of episodes, but Melinda never did grow on me, even after the first season. I can stand here, I just don't like her that much. Their relationship was one that couldn't really stand - demon and a witch - and ultimately ended in tradgedy in the finale, where Ryan was killed. However, left with Ryan's unborn child, who knows what Melinda will do...
Sarah, meanwhile, was a character introduced after Bianca. Luckily for her, however, I took a liking to her right away. I thought that it was a somewhat short time period from Chris going from Bianca to Sarah, but long enough. Sarah was a mysterious character from the start, and left you wondering. And then she helps save the world, and then (if you're me) you like her even more.
The season finale.
Every ending has to be exciting, sad, and angsty, which this is. Bringing in the cousins was a sign of family bonding, and that they're close, even though the four other Halliwells live across the country. The ending of the first part was completely sad - Melinda and Chris the only survivors, desperate to save the others.
Then the second part starts. It was a nice way to bring the Charmed ending into the ending of the first season. Chris and Melinda go back in time, but end up in an alternate reality - with Prue surviving. At this point, I kinda got the feeling that she might be the one to die at the end, with what she said.
And then, the future. It seemed to me, here, that Wyatt was possibly the one who died, or maybe he didn't. Maybe he was alive, but Melinda named her son after him anyway. Or maybe Wyatt dies later in the series, before his nephew's birth. Lots of speculation there for people who like that. However, the trip to the future did bring a new name - Nathan. It makes you wonder... hmmm... who's Nathan? (Ignoring that she read the other character profiles for season 2)
And then the total end of it all. I can't say that I was surprised to see Ryan go, I had a feeling that, even though he was a good character, that he was going to go in the end. However, Prue was a surprise. I thought that she would survive. I do, however, think that those Halliwells need to stop naming their kids Prue. It's like a curse, LOL. I'm curious to see if Prue over in Progeny will become a victim of it.
Chloe, however, was not a surprise to me, either. She was alright to me, but never truly grew on me. I loved Darryl in Charmed, but she seemed slighlty cold to me, and she never really grew on me.
Melinda's running away. I don't like her still, but I do understand what's she's doing. A friend of mine ran away like this, but she came back home after two days, regretting what she had done. So let's see if Melinda will regret it...
However, like everything, more things could be written to make them better. I thought that Melinda could have possibly written to make us like her slightly more, and the same with Chloe. They were just written somewhat like we didn't like them that much, which was what happened to me. I also thought that the cousins could have been incorporated a bit more, but that's my own opinion. I also think that Ryan could have been written a bit more likeable.
But, overall, it was a fantastic start to a brand new series, and I, for one, am looking forward to season 2. The finale left many questions to be answered, some of which will be addressed down here:
1. What's going to happen with Melinda?
2. After snooping around, I found a rumor that a OTH cast member will be joining them. Is the rumor true? Who is it?
3. What will happen to the Power of Three, with Prue dead? Will one of her sisters take her place, like Paige did for Prue?
4. Will we meet Nathan, who Piper mentioned, in this season?
5. Will Wyatt find happiness?
6. How are Phoebe and Coop dealing with the lose of their daughter?
Hopefully, these questions will be answered in Angels and Demosn: Season 2.
